DAUNTSEY’S head of rugby Marcus Olsen says the school’s U15 side have been handed a unique opportunity after putting themselves one win from a date at the home of English rugby.
The West Lavington school reached the semi finals of the Daily Mail Schools Vase with an 18-12 victory over New Hall School, from Essex, last week.
Captain Will Britton, Toby Small and Tom Parker scored tries and a penalty from Max Romer-Lee sent them to a last four meeting with either St Clement Dane’s School (London) or Chew Valley School at Broadstreet RFC on March 18.
The winners of that clash will go to the final at Twickenham and Olsen, himself a veteran of national cup finals and U21 internationals at the venue during a playing career that included Saracens and Bath, said: “We have a very strong year group but obviously the most difficult stage is always the semi final.
“We’ve got five weeks to get ourselves ready.
“Twickenham would be a massively unique occasion that would live in the boys’ memories forever.’’ The U15s squad includes three sets of twins – skipper Britton and centre brother Alex, forwards Rowan and Andrew Duckworth and scrum-half Sam Tomlin and brother Ed – and were ironically boosted by their one defeat this season.
Olsen added: “We were unlucky to draw Kingswood (Bath) in the first round of the cup competition, who are very strong, and because we lost, we ended up in the Vase.
“So, in a strange way, it’s worked out very well for us.’’ There was disappointment for Chippenham’s Sheldon School in the quarter finals of the Daily Mail Schools U18 Vase.
They lost 22-3 to Ravens Wood School, Kent, at Chippenham RFC last week.
