CHIPPENHAM progressed to the next round of the Bristol Combination Cup despite a tough test against their Somerset opponents.

The Wiltshire side eventually managed to get themselves in front following an excellent run from Dan Treacy to open up the field.

The ball was taken into contact by Ian Jenkins and eventually the ball went out to Kalif Barnes on the wing who went under the posts, allowing Harry Taylor the opportunity to add an easy two points.

The try seemed to settle Chippenham nerves, but Weston rallied and again forced Chippenham back into their own territory.

Chippenham’s second try came when Barnes again took the ball up the wing and passed to Treacy whowentin under the posts and converted Weston hit back with a try of their own, but Chippenham added a third try when they were awarded a penalty and, rather than kick to the corner, Taylor decided to run the ball.

Alex Grahame and Hugh Campbell were involved as Barnes crossed for his secon of the match.

Weston were reduced to 14 men by two sin-binnings either side of half time and when Tom North again took the ball off the back of the scrum his offload allowed Ollie Jones to reach the line.

From the restart, the ball was caught by Connor Weetman who passed out of the tackle to Sam Wild who kicked forward.

The Weston full-back fumbled the ball and Theo Blundell, who had followed up the kick, scooped up the loose ball and went over to score, Taylor converting.

Chippenham’s next came from a penalty, Ollie Salt and Tom Dimech charging before Campbell went North over.

Treacy added another as he skipped past tackles to cross the line, Taylor adding a superb conversion.
