The Bath Festival was a fitting end to a demanding season for Trowbridge U10s.
The challenge in the pool stages was considerable as Trowbridge faced Pontypridd, Redruth, Bath and Salisbury.
The first match against Pontypool was a shock as physicality of the Welsh side shook the Wiltshire side and resulted in a 15-0 scoreline at halftime. However, the halftime team talk resulted in the Trowbridge side not taking a backward step in the second half and there being no further score.
David Philips and Kieran Bancroft played well with Philips' defence again the standout for the game.
The second match against Redruth was another bruising encounter but the Trowbridge team went back to their trademark driving game, time and again moving the ball upfield against a well drilled Cornish side.
This resulted in a try for arch try poacher Jamie Howell as the ball was driven over the Redruth line.
The second half saw Redruth coming back at Trowbridge with an equalising score eventiually being conceded.
The Trowbridge side used the ball intelligently with Will Thompson orchestrating the backline well.
With a loss and a draw, two good results were needed to stand any chance of going through to the semi-finals. the first was against Bath and Trowbridge showed the intensity that they had experienced from the opposition in the first two games.
With three tries from Will Stockley, all the players rose to the occasion, with Daniel Marsh-Jones' driving runs and crunching defence from Ryan Deeley notable.
The final match against Salisbury saw the best of Trowbridge as they put the other Wilsthire side to the sword, running in six unanswered tries.
With three from Will Stockley, two from Jamie Howell and one from Lewis Saliba, the team fed off the dominance of the forwards with Jacob Marshman, Luke Dobson and Saliba using their power well.
Unfortunately, the results meant that the decision over who would conitnue to the semi-finals would be contested in a golden try game with Redruth. With no break, the game went to the Cornish side who were fresher.
With 44 individual games played, Trowbridge won 31 losing just 9, scoring 168 tries, they can look forward to a successful season in September.
