THE Wiltshire Times and Chippenham News-sponsored Team of the Week award for October 29th, 2006, has been awarded to Third Division side Somerford FC.
Although there were a number of good results for teams from most divisions, this week the top honours had to go to Somerford FC, who only one week ago suffered the indignity of a 14-4 cup defeat to a team from the Fourth Division, earning themselves the title of Sorry Somerford'.
A basement battle against fellow strugglers Chippenham United ROAB would probably not be the best sort of match to motivate your players for but if you're going to turn things around in seven days then any fixture will suffice.
Thanks, in no small part to an Alex Whitehall hat-trick and single strikes from Scott Hattan, Phil Conrath and brothers Darren and Ben Clark, his first goal in ten years of football, the village team lived up to their title Great Somerford.' All the more impressive was that Somerford were without the services of top marksman Chris Yeo for the match.
Chippenham United ROAB contributed to an entertaining game scoring three times, with two for Ben Smith and one for Alan Woodward.
