FROME TOWN maintained their Premier Division title challenge with a 3-0 home win over Barnstaple despite having goalkeeper Ray Johnston sent off.

The game turned sour after 55 minutes. Frome defender Jamie Cheeseman was caught by a late crude challenge which sparked a 20 man brawl which ended with Johnston and Barnstaple midfielder Shaun Goff red carded.

Frome midfielder Matt Cowler took over in goal and was rarely troubled in the 35 minutes he played between the sticks.

Frome had started strongly and took a deserved lead in the 11th minute when captain Jon Crowley was bundled over on the edge of the box and Gavin Eyre fired home the free kick.

Frome doubled their lead after 72 minutes when Mark Salter, a target for Weston-super-Mare, Mangotsfield United and Team Bath, turned in Gavin Eyre's cross.

Salter scored a third for Frome in stoppage time after capitalising on a defensive mix-up.
