AFTER being tipped to do well in this season’s Westernsport Trophies-sponsored WG Parr Trophy, first division Prestige Bodyworks were dumped out of the competition by Division Two Miller Sports.

Prestige surrendered a two-goal advantage to go down 3-2, despite setting out their stall early on.

It didn’t take long for first goal to arrive, a lovely curling shot from Jamie Treweke beating the keeper and this was quickly followed by a second, as slack defending allowed Treweke through on goal to score his and Prestige’s second.

However, a new-look Miller side dug deep and helped by the impressive Scott Boyd, who had already missed a couple of chances, got back into the game when he slid the ball under the keeper.

Boyd then squared things up with his second of the morning, cutting in from the left he curled a right footed beauty into the net for 2-2.

Miller kept on pressing and Boyd turned provider for their third and winning goal, as a perfect cross to the back post was met by James Webb who headed in for his first of the season to make it 3-2 at half time.

Prestige pressedfor most of the second half but some excellent defending kept them at bay and Miller came away with the result and a place in the next round.

Bremhill View Boys 8 Old Road FC 0

FOUR goals in each half saw third division Bremhill View Boys avoid a potential banana skin at home to fourth division outfit Old Road, who were unable to take their fine league form into the tie.

Old Road manager Andrew Rose opted to give his fringe players a run out and although they did well they were outplayed by Gary Marshall’s side whose pace down both flanks caused their guests problems from the very first whistle.

Rory Worthington, Aaron Gardiner, Jack Taylor and Caner Ozkaya scored in the first half.

A second from Taylor and Worthington plus a goal each from Luke De Boer and Leigh Maidment completed the rout.

Corsham Park Rangers 4 North Star A 5

THIRD Division Corsham Park Rangers almost produced the result of the day.

Trailing 4-0 at the break to Division One outfit North Star A they clawed back their four goal deficit only to lose out in the final minute as Star’s late strike earned them a thrilling 5-4 win.

North Star must have thought that it was going to be a walk in the park when they reached the interval as they were four up, Paul Green scoring the first on 11 minutes when he rose above everyone else to powerfully head in from a corner.

Corsham’s Owen Bryan had a great game but was unlucky not to level in the 22nd minute, after beating Star’s offside trap on a great save from the Star’s keeper kept it at 1-0.

North Star got their second in the 28th minute when Karl Sharratt picked the ball up on wing and took on three defenders and shot low to the keeper's right.

Jamie-Lloyd Davies then popped with a quick-fire double in the 38th and 40th minutes, his first from an acute angle his second after a fine run and excellent finish.

Corsham’s manager Tim Spear read the riot act to his team at the break and this seemed to fire them into life as within a minute of the restart they pull a goal back.

A free kick from Kane Kauppinen was palmed out by keeper to Kadir Ayhan who scrambled ball home.  Kauppinen went from provider to scorer on 57 minutes with a great finish from 25 yards.

It was game on in the 80th minute, Corsham cutting the gap to the odd goal, a long throw from Kauppinen was met at the far post by an unmarked Matthew Spear who fired home.

Corsham’s players went into raptures in 85th minute when a corner in was met by Jordan Coulter whose header tied the game at four each.

With extra time looming, Corsham suffered heartache when North Star’s Davies completed his hat-trick in the 89th minute to win what was a thrilling contest for his team.

FC Boroughs 8 Crossblades FC 0

FIRST Division FC Boroughs have a good chance of going all the way this season or at least getting to the final four.

The Malmesbury-based side brushed their fourth division opponents Crossblades aside as they coasted to an 8-0 win, handing the Blades a lesson in total football.

Crossblades have had an arduous start to season and their apprehension towards the cup tie was just as FC Borough ran out convincing winners.

The scoreline fails to show what Crossblades brought to this fixture, may be not with attacking prowess, but with their defensive effort and teamwork.

The game started brightly for Boroughs, with Mark Lane, Sam Parker, Jake Fortune and Josh Newman all enjoying a lot of the ball while being camped in the Crossblades half.

A few half-chances ensued but John Hampshire was never really troubled.

With three central midfielders and a lone striker, Crossblades packed the midfield in an attempt to nullify Boroughs' classy strikers.

Really though, it was only a matter of time before the Crossblades goal was breached, a well-worked moved ending with a one-two and the ball being fired in to the goal from an acute angle by Sam Parker.

The pattern of the remainder of the first half was much the same, Boroughs having all the ball, and Crossblades defending with resilience.

Pete North and Rob Eardley were having good games at fullback and Mike Booth had the running of a young gazelle at the heart of an overworked Blades midfield.

Several more chances came and went for Boroughs captain Tim Chilton cleared off the line and keeper Hampshire made several good saves from the accomplished strikers of Boroughs.

Sadly for Crossblades, shortly before half time the pressure became too much and Hampshire's goal was breached for second time with Josh Newman scoring and Boroughs could show some relief in a game they should be winning by a more comfortable margin.

For the first 13 minutes of the second half Crossblades held firm and there was an air of frustration from Boroughs who, despite having at least 85 per cent possession, could not make the final ball count.

Lane and San Jenner stepped up for the home team and Crossblades monumental effort was fading rapidly.

A fantastic passing move resulted in an attack down the right flank, the ball was crossed low and hard and despite Tim Chilton and Liam Matthews sliding tackles Sam Parker flicked home from three yards.

Parity was restored shortly after when Parker's fantastic header gave boroughs a 4-0 lead and Parker his hat-trick.

James Squire and Gareth Cole continued to challenge in midfield and there were moments of good football from Crossblades, yet with the ball just not bouncing for the Blades, a keeper error and an unlucky flick from Liam Matthews resulted in 4-0 becoming 6-0 quickly thanks to goals from Parker and Jack Ellis.

Chris Walker and Carl Jacobi replaced North and Eardley and both impressed with assured displays.

With Owers, Chilton and Matthews throwing themselves at everything and the midfield pressing as hard as they could, Crossblades simply ran out of steam and Boroughs managed to add two more goals before the end of the game, Parker with his fifth of the game and Kevin Bridgeman making up the eight.

Referee Ryan Adams had a fantastic game in the middle.

FC Buscots 3 Castle FC 6

THIRD Division FC Buscots were unable to claim the bragging rights against near-neighbours Castle FC who forgot their recent poor league form to register a 6-3 victory over their fierce rivals.

Nathan Moffatt, Phil Little and Luke Enderby scored for Buscots but it wasn’t enough to save them from defeat at the hands of their first division opponents who progressed to the next round courtesy of goals from Joe Unswort, Doug Dickson, Liam Hill, Tom Slater and Gary Campbell who scored twice.

FC North Wiltshire 1 Kings Arms (All Cannings) 4

SECOND Division Kings Arms (All Cannings) got the result they wanted at fourth division FC North Wiltshire, Jim Wilson’s side coming through what was a tricky game winning it 4-1.

Kings Arms were the quickest out of the blocks, with the North Wilts goalkeeper Richard Toghill called into action within the opening two minutes, saving well with his legs after Shaun Jefferies had been put through.

In fact, Jefferies made an excellent start to the game, and it was his deep cross to the back post that led to Tony Greenidge bagging first goal of the game in the 10th minute.

On 15 minutes, the score became 2-0, after Sam Deane gave away a free-kick for shirt pulling, from the free-kick, a great header by Jon Giddings doubled Kings Arms lead.

It took North Wilts 25 minutes to register a shot of their own, with Paul Colegate blasting wide from distance, before Simon Gray lamely headed the ball into the keeper’s arms from six yards.

Kings Arms added a third on the half hour mark after they were given a somewhat questionable penalty.

Most of the players from both teams thought a goal kick had been awarded, but Lloyd Brown was adjudged to have fouled the Kings Arms striker and Simon Drewitt tucked the resulting spot kick in for 3-0.

Just before the break, North Wilts' Simon Gray had a further chance to score after being put through for a one on one, but he shot wide of the left hand post.

In the second half, both teams continued to battle, and another bullet header from Giddings made it 4-0 in the 53rd minute.

It could have resulted in the floodgates opening, but North Wilts continued to battle for the ball, and in the end got a much deserved goal of their own, with Lloyd Brown volleying in from a Ross Lye corner.

North Wilts felt they should have had a penalty of their own, after the referee awarded a free-kick right on the edge of the area.

In the final 10 minutes of the game, North Wilts pressed and pressed, altering to a three-man defence, and they did come close once or twice to breaking through the solid Kings Arms defence.

Goatacre CC FC 0 Sutton Benger 2 AET

THE all-second division affair between Goatacre CC and Sutton Benger needed extra time to find a winner.

With 90 minutes failing to produce any goals, Benger took the tie 2-0 with both goals coming in the second period of added time.

Benger had a few good chances to win it in 90 minutes but they eventually took the lead through Matt White who bravely headed home in the 110 minute.

Two minutes later Tom Bond drilled a free kick into the area where White guided a backwards header over the onrushing keeper for 2-0.

GRFC 4 Wren FC 1

THE second all-Division Two affair saw GRFC defeat Wren FC 4-1, all the goals coming in the second half and all being scored by the former.

Jordan Tarrent, Matt Baker and two from Robbie Burton made up the winners quartet, Rob Jefferies put through his own net to give Wren their consolation.

Pack Horse Rangers 3 White Horse FC 9

IT WAS Third Division versus second at Stanley Park, as Pack Horse Rangers played host to White Horse - and it was the Westbury visitors who backed up their divisional superiority by booking a place in the next round.

Having been involved in 10 and 11 goal thrillers in their first two league games of the season, it was no wonder that Clive Black’s men were among the goals again, and, as before, it wasn’t long before the flood gates opened.

With just three minutes on the clock the deadlock was broken when White Horse’s Pete Ayton leapt highest to head home a Dale Rowland free kick.

Rangers had hardly had time to catch their breaths when Jack Miluk set Chris Stiles free down the right flank and the talisman finished neatly from the tightest of angles to put his team two ahead.

When Miluk hit the post with a cross come shot in the ninth minute, the home side must have feared the worst.

But four minutes later they had good reason for hope when Simon McCarthy outmuscled his marker from a corner to halve the deficit.

Spurred on by conceding, the visitors response was almost immediate and they regained their two goal cushion in the 16th minute when Ayton was set clear by Rowland and fired past keeper Sean Davis.

Both teams seemed content with the 3-1 score line and, despite the manic opening to the game, the score remained the same through to half time.

White Horse’s half time team talk clearly highlighted the importance of further goals as they came flying out of the blocks at the beginning of the second period.

Just three minutes in, they extended their lead when Stiles drove through the midfield area before unleashing a fierce 25 yard drive into the top corner.

When Dave Appleyard came on as a substitute for the away side in the 55th minute, few would have anticipated the impact he was going to have.

Just six minutes after his introduction he was picked out at the back post by Stiles, controlled neatly and blasted his first goal for the club past a helpless Davis.

Despite going four goals behind, and seeing Rowland have another ruled out for offside, Pack Horse showed great spirit and found themselves right back in the game thanks to two goals in a three-minute period around the midway point in the half.

The ever-dangerous Ben Butterfield scored the first of them, latching on to a through ball and showing great strength to fend off his marker before slotting home and then, just two minutes later, McCarthy found himself one-on-one with White Horse keeper Rich Hunt, making no mistake and getting his second of the game to make it 5-3.

As previously, McCarthy’s goal only seemed to inspire the visitors and this time with devastating effect, as they scored four unanswered goals in the final 20 minutes.

The inspired Appleyard became the fourth player of the morning to bag two goals, following a mazy run that saw him elude three tackles before shooting wide of Davis and into the far corner.

It could have got immediately worse for the Pack Horse side had it not been for the woodwork, that firstly denied Rowland and then Tom Crawford, the latter finding the outside of the post with Davis well beaten.

Appleyard completed his hat-trick in the 79th minute when he latched on to a Jordan Gullis ball, following good work from veteran Paul Whale, and got his fourth just two minutes later when put through by Ayton and thundering home at Davis’ near post.

With just seconds remaining Ayton got his third with a delicate lob, after latching on to Rob Hart’s long ball forward, making it 9-3 and sending White Horse into the draw for the next round.

Southwick Wanderers 3 FC Brunel 5

WITH last term’s trophy winners AFC Calne unable to defend their trophy this season, top flight FC Brunel are among the favourites to do the business this season, Brunel faced a tricky game at second division Southwick Wanderers.

But they managed to come though it with flying colours even if their 5-3 was a lot closer than they would have wanted it to be.

Brunel were three up within half an hour thanks to goals from Ross Menghini and Mark Nolan who scored twice.

Wanderers pulled a goal back with Jack Park scoring after good work from Nick Buckle.

The second half saw Parker close the gap even further with his second of the game, this time it was Naseem Abourachid who provided the assist.

Brunel reasserted their dominance as a third from Mark Nolan made it 4-2 before a second from Menghini took it to 5-2.

Wanderers scored their third with 10 minutes remaining and for scorer Parker it was his hat-trick goal, but it was also scant consolationas Brunel ran out comfortable winners.

Talbot FC 2 Bradford Renegades 9

First Division Bradford Renegades ran out 9-2 winners at third division Talbot FC, with Sam Jordan being the hosts tormentor-in-chief scoring five to take his tally to 13 in just three games.

Jordan opened the scoring with a tidy near-post finish.

Mark Robinson opened his account for Renegades after volleying home a Lance Davis cross.

Jordan then doubled his own tally with a carbon copy of his first after a superb run from Josh Maguire.

Ashley Styles' bullet header from a Davis corner made it 4-0.

Jordan and Davis produced a clever interchange which led to Josh Maguire making netting number five.

The second half couldn't have started any worse for the Talbot, with Renegades scoring with the first attack, Jordan completing his hat-trick with a clinical finish.

Talbot pulled one back after beating the offside trap with Steve Wordley scoring.

Sam Jordan then added a seventh with another near-post dink.

Substitute Dale Wood scored a second for Talbot before Davis got his name on the score sheet with a clever turn and side-foot after being set up by Styles.

It was fitting that Jordan had the final say with clinical drive that made it 9-2

Trowbridge Town Supporters Club 6 Christian Malford 3

TROWBRIDGE Town Supporters Club took a deserved step into the second round with a 6-3 home victory over Christian Malford at Bratton - two of their players both scoring hat tricks.

Although Malford were in the Division Three, their fourth division opponents showed no apprehension and soon put the Malford defence under pressure.

After six minutes Trowbridge took the lead when John Williams cross found Dean Coles.

Malford hit back after 20 minutes when Scott Evans run ended with his lob over the keeper to level the scores at 1-1.

Paul Knight gave Malford the lead after 25 minutes when he scored after a run from halfway.

Trowbridge levelled the score at 2-2 on 27 minutes when John Williams shot hit the post and cannoned to Dean Coles who scored.

Trowbridge were back in front five minutes later when John Williams scored his second after a long run and despite the attention of a Malford defender.

Grant Christie in the Malford goal kept Malford in the game with a good save but could do nothing as Coles got his second on the stroke of half-time after Malford failed to clear a free kick. Trowbridge went in at half time leading 4-2.

Malford came out with more purpose at the start of the second half and Ashley Swaine in the Trowbridge goal had to make a couple of good saves to deny Malford.

As the half wore on Malford became more desperate and threw players forward. Trowbridge took full advantage of the tiring defenders and both Coles in the 63rd minute and Williams in the 67th minute completed their hat-tricks.

Long runs out of their own half had split open the Malford defence and left them with easy scoring opportunities which they did not waste to give Trowbridge a 6-2 lead.

Malford did pull a goal back in the 86th minute when captain Stephen Lynch scored when the defence failed to clear Martyn Mackie’s corner from the left to reduce the deficit to 6-3.

The game ended with a deserved 6-3 win for the supporters’ club.

The game was well refereed by Adam Pothecary.
