Chippenham under 15s 7, Salisbury under 15s 34
CHIPPENHAM had winger Shane Mitchell sent off as they lost to holders Salisbury in the round-robin stage of this year's Wiltshire Cup.
After a tightly fought first half, when Chippenham looked the better team at times, Salisbury managed to stretch their lead in the second half after the home side were reduced to 14 players.
Chippenham's points came from a try by fly-half Emery, who also added the conversion.
Early in the second half, a fracas between some forwards was being sorted out when Mitchell intervened unnecessarily and was shown the red card.
Chippenham under sevens continued their excellent start to the season with a victory and two draws from their three matches against Reading and Maidenhead.
The team maintained their progress and improvement in both running play and defensive tagging, a tremendous achievement for a team which have only been together for two months. A special mention for James Utton, who displayed some very strong running and scored nine tries.
Chippenham's under eights squad enjoyed a day's rugby at Maidenhead, playing their hosts in two games and a match against a team from Reading Abbey. With a squad of 21 players, Chippenham were able to divide into three teams so all the players had at least two games.
The teams were: Team W,Alex Bowers, Cameron Patey, William Ferris (captain), Matthew Baker, David Comport, Daniel Wiltshire and Akito Jacques.
Team X, Rhys Bevan, Sam Ryan, Tom Tennant, James Towell, James Westcott (captain), Harrison Deards and Henry Gaunt.
Team Y, Ted Collyer, Patrick Coniam (captain), Daniel Carter, Oliver Johnson, James Carter-Davies, Charlie Clarke and Robert Waddington.
Chippenham under nines fielded two teams in a triangular series with Maidenhead and Reading Abbey They won both games against Reading and won one and drew one of their games against Maidenhead.
Chippenham under 10s played their hosts Maidenhead and a team from Reading Abbey, dividing into two teams and remained unbeaten.
They won their two games against Reading and their three games against Maidenhead.
Chippenham under 11s spent half an hour warming up before lining up for their first game against Maidenhead and lost to a second minute try.
They went on to beat an inexperienced combined Reading/Maidenhead team by nine tries to nil, beat Reading Abbey 4-0 and lost to Maidenhead.
Chippenham under 12s had a torrid time at Maidenhead. They started brightly enough in their opening game, but a nasty clash of heads took out two of Chippenham's back line and meant a reshuffle of players. Maidenhead went on to win 15-0. In the second game Maidenhead won 15-5.
