Cricklade 19, Westbury 22
WESTBURY put coach Jon Parker through the wringer on Saturday before Chris Vaughan came to the rescue with a dramatic last minute penalty.
It was second time in two seasons the visitors had won at Cricklade with the last kick of the game, much to the relief of Parker and the Westbury coaching staff.
"If they do that to me one more time I'm not coming here again," said Parker afterwards.
"We made hard work of it but a win is a win. As one of the players said after the game, if we can play that badly and still win we have a lot going for us."
Saturday's victory was Westbury's fourth win in a row and moved them into a three-way tie for third place in Dorset and Wilts One north.
The White Horse men had to break out of a trot to overcome their hosts, who took full advantage of the strong wind in the first half to put Westbury under pressure .
Aaron Collins-Thomas put Westbury ahead with a try after six just minutes, which was converted by fly-half Vaughan.
But three tries in quick succession, two of which were converted, gave Cricklade a 19-7 half-time lead.
Substitute Glen Bowden, playing his first game for six weeks, crashed over just after the hour mark His try was converted by Vaughan to reduce the Westbury arrears to 19-14.
Scrum half Adam Turner intercepted the ball on the halfway line and never looked like being caught to level the scores at 19-19.
And when Cricklade were penalised for coming over the top of a ruck, Vaughan lined up his match-winning kick and slotted it confidently between the posts.
