THE Wiltshire Times and Chippenham News-sponsored Team of the Week award for October 22, 2006, has been awarded to Premier Division side Bradford News FC.

Despite a number of upsets in the Westernsport Trophies-sponsored WG Parr Trophy, notably from Fourth Division sides The Crown FC and Wanderers, Second Division British Lion OC and Pig and Whistle United and Third Division sides Westbury Rangers B and Wheatsheaf, who all beat higher league opponents, there was one stand-out result from the Premier Division.

For the second time this season Bradford News FC receive this award for their rearguard display against Spencer Sports in which they recorded their first league win of the season by 5-2.

The newsmen had the bare 11 players available but defended as a unit, rode their luck and played the counter-attacking system to good effect. Spencer Sports rued their missed chances and found themselves two down by half-time to strikes by Russell Francis and full back Nathan Olasz, who made up for an earlier miss by scoring from the same spot.

The Sports finally found their scoring boots through Ashley Groves and Barry Holloway but the game swung back in favour of the Bradford side when a stunning individual goal from Jason Povey once again spurred them on. Povey scored again and Russell Francis, who started the scoring fittingly ended it as well with his second goal of the match.
