LIAM Dawson has made a sensational start to his six month trip to Australia by making a century on his first appearance Down Under.
The 16-year-old all-rounder marked his debut for Western Australian club Melville by blasting 176 in a fourth grade match.
Former Chippenham player Dawson is spending the winter in Australia as part of a link set-up by Hampshire first team coach Paul Terry.
Dawson, who played for Wiltshire and Hampshire this summer, is hoping the trip will help realise his ambition to play first class cricket in England.
Two of Dawson's Wiltshire team-mates have also made an early impact in Australia.
Eddie Abel, who is also playing for Melville, returned bowling figures of four for 32 off 16 overs on his debut and leg spinner Pat Turk also took four wickets in his first game for Melbourne club East Keilor.
