Westbury 24, Colerne 8

WESTBURY players became stars of the small screen when their win over basement side Colerne was captured on film.

Coach Jon Parker armed his friend with a digital camcorder and sat him on top of a van to shoot Saturday's Dorset and Wilts One North action at Leighton Green.

Parker ordered the warts and all footage as a coaching aid, which will be used to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the White Horse men.

The premiere was due to be screened during training this week, with another viewing scheduled for later in the season.

Said Parker: "We've talked about making a video in the past but this is the first time we've actually tried it.

"The footage makes very interesting viewing from a coach's point of view. It was a perfect example of where we went right and where we went wrong."

The idea of filming matches is by no means a new concept but it highlights the dedication to improvement that Parker has instilled in the Westbury camp.

Three wins from their opening five matches represents a remarkable turnaround from last season, when Westbury were made to wait until November to register their first league win.

"I definitely think this footage can help us," said Parker.

"I usually stand on the sideline and it's very difficult for me to analyse everything that's going on from there.

"The video camera was mounted at one end behind the posts so we could see the action from a totally different angle.

"This is just another way of getting the players to realise what's expected of them. If they can see what they do well and where they are going wrong it can only be of benefit."

It didn't take a film critic to see that Matt Inseal was the man of the match on Saturday.

Playing in the centre, Inseal enjoyed one of his best afternoons in a Westbury shirt, scoring two tries and making several breaks from midfield.

Parker hailed his talisman's performance as "simply outstanding" as the White Horse men cantered to victory.

"That's easily the best I have ever seen Matt play," he said.

"The whole side did well, though I would have liked a few more points against the bottom team in the league.

"I think we played better than the 24-8 scoreline suggests. Our finishing just let us down at times."

There was nothing wrong with the finishing after 15 minutes when full-back Chris Phibben dived over for a try which was converted by Jacques Prinsloo.

Inseal grabbed his first of the afternoon when he broke from the halfway line to score beneath the posts after some good work from the Westbury forwards.

A penalty and an unconverted try for Colerne followed as the visitors reduced their arrears to 14-8.

Back row Nigel Robinson touched down for the hosts before Inseal sealed the points for Westbury with a simple finish from Aaron Collins-Thomas' off-load.
