Willand Rovers 0, Melksham Town 4

MELKSHAM survived a first-half onslaught at Silver Street before producing a golden performance to steal the points in the second.

The visitors were chasing shadows for 15 minutes and would have been a goal down but for the heroics of goalkeeper Danny Holdcroft.

The former Team Bath stopper dived full length to tip Danny Baily's vicious volley around the post.

Willand pressed for the opener but was repelled by the courageous Adam Young and Josh Brigham, who blocked with every part of their anatomy to keep the home side at bay.

Buoyed by their defensive heroics, Melksham found renewed vigour in the second period and blew Willand away in a devastating 15 minute spell.

Mike Perrott was the chief architect of Willand's destruction, scoring twice and creating another goal for veteran striker Steve Tweddle.

Luke Ballinger completed the scoring to give Melksham their second win on the road this season.

A relieved Kelvin Highmore said afterwards: "We did to Willand what other sides have been doing to us all season.

"For 15 minutes we were awesome. Once he stared to run at their full-back, Mike Perrott tore Willand apart.

"But what pleased me more than the four goals was the clean sheet. The lads died for each other out there.

"Wayne Thorne has made these kids mentally stronger. They were fearless on Saturday and they gave everything for the cause," he said.
