TOOLSTATION LEAGUE

Corsham Town 3, Odd Down 0

CORSHAM set a new club record on Saturday when they claimed their seventh consecutive league victory without conceding a goal.

It appears this could also be a Western League record, though this is still being verified by league officials.

A brace from Scott Lye and a Toby Colbourne strike ensured Colin Bush came out on top in the battle of the former Chippenham coaches.

Bush was assistant to Odd Town boss Tommy Saunders when the Bluebirds reached the FA Vase final at Wembley, but he became the master on Saturday as the Reds romped to a 3-0 win.

The victory keeps Corsham one point clear of nearest challengers Bridgwater at the top of the Toolstation Premier Division and Bush says the weekend can't come soon enough.

"We are absolutely buzzing at the moment. The lads are feeding off each other in the changing room," he said.

"I keep going back to the Welton game, when we lost 6-0 at home, but that was a massive attention-getter.

"I knew I had the quality and the character in the squad to respond. Since that defeat we have been on fire."

Bush believes the introduction of former Team Bath centre half Peter Tisdale, son of Exeter boss Paul, has had a major impact on his squad.

The Southbank chief also lavished praise on goalkeeper Craig Chaplin and the other defenders who have contributed to the incredible run of clean sheets.

He said: "I have no doubt that the signing of Peter, and Craig making himself available again has been the key to our success.

"The back five have given us a great platform to build on and the midfield is playing with so much confidence.

"We have beem keeping the ball on the floor and hardly using the long ball at all. The speed and movement of some of our passing has been great to watch. "

Odd Down employed a 4-5-1 formation on Saturday in an attempt to stifle the Corsham forwards.

Manager Tommy Saunders admitted his side were beaten by the better team.

He said: "We've been struggling to score at the moment so we went to Corsham looking for a 0-0 draw.

"My lads did their best but Corsham were too strong for us. If we'd tried to open the game up we could have lost by five or six.

"Nobby has a very committed squad over at Corsham and you can see the players all work hard for one another - I wish them all the best."
