GOLF: ALEXANDER Pike has been crowned golfer of the year at Cumberwell Golf Club after scooping four trophies on the fairways this year.
The 15-year-old pupil of John of Gaunt School, Trowbridge, collected his award on Friday night at a presentation evening in the clubhouse.
Pike, who has seen his handicap cut from 11 to seven in the last 12 months, practises six days a week at the course near Bradford on Avon.
Together with his partner Jed Osbourne, who plays off five, Pike won the St Andrews foursomes and summer doubles competitions.
A nett 64 was enough to earn him top prize in the Junior Club Championship earlier this summer, just ahead of close friend Osbourne.
Pike also triumphed in the nett club championship, a competition for junior and senior members.
"It's been a very good year for me and I hope to keep on improving," said Pike.
"I've had a lot of help from the coaches at Cumberwell this summer.
"One of the main things I have been working on is trying to keep my shoulders in line with the flag to improve my accuracy.
"I also want to say a big thank you my mum and dad. They run me down to the club every night after school and without them I would not be able to practice," he said.
