ANGLING: COMPETITORS enjoyed mixed sport in the Bathampton open match fished at Bridge Pool.
Mike Nicholls, of Bitton, won with a mixed catch of carp and skimmers weighing 59lb 14oz, taken on pole-fished paste and pellets.
Bob Price, of Bristol, took second prize with an all-carp catch weighing 50lb 4oz, taken on pole-fished paste and pellets. He was followed by Mike Hill, of Bathampton, with a mixed catch of carp and skimmers weighing 31lb 8oz, taken alternating with pole-fished pellets and red maggots.
Other placings: 4 Dave Sullivan, Bathampton, 26lb; 5 Mark Joseph, Bristol, 12lb 4oz; 6 Bob Tilley, Bristol, 7lb 12oz.
There was a little to choose between the top three competitors in the Bath Spartans match fished on Sunday on the Avon at Staverton.
John Kelly, of Bath, won with a mixed catch of roach and dace weighing 5lb 12oz, taken on Avon-floated red maggots and casters. Chris Palmer, of Bath, took the runner-up spot with a mixed catch of roach and perch weighing 5lb 8oz, taken alternating with pole and Avon-floated worm and casters.
He was followed by Doug Sutton, from Bath, with an all-chub catch weighing 5lb 7oz, taken on quivertipped red maggots.
Other placings: 4 Tony Oatley, Bath, 4lb 7oz; 5 Pete Ball, Bath, 4lb 4oz; 6 Steve Cross, Calne, 3lb 12oz.
