HILPERTON'S Francesca Fox was today confirmed in the rhythmic gymnastics group to represent Great Britain at the team event at London 2012.

Fox, 20, and five of her colleagues at the University of Bath-based group - Georgina Cassar, Swindon's Jade Faulkner, Lynne Hutchison, Louisa Pouli and captain Rachel Smith - were named for the Games.

Colleague Annie Bartlett will be a non-travelling reserve.

Confirmation of the selection of Fox and her teammates brought to an end one of the most controversial episodes in Great Britain's Olympic selection process for London 2012.

The team secured their place at the Games following an appeal earlier this year. British Gymnastics had originally declined to nominate them for selection after the group failed to hit a qualifying score at the Olympic Test event in Greenwich at the start of the year.

However, they achieved the score a day later at the same event and successfully appealed that the selection procedure had not been clearly laid out.

Fox won bronze with the England team at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The rhythmic gymnastics will be held at Wembley Arena from the August 9-12.
