TOOLSTATION League title contenders Frome Town have strengthened their squad with four new signings.

In each case the player is making a return to Badgers Hill after previous spells of varying lengths.

The first to put pen to paper was goalkeeper Ray Johnston, who helped guide Clevedon Town to the Southern League Premier Division last term, but was strangely released at the start of the season.

He said of his return to the club: "I'm delighted to come back to Frome. I didn't want to leave in the first place and I feel like I have some unfinished business.

"Hopefully I can rekindle that same bond I had with the supporters and as a club we can challenge for trophies."

Frome manager Andy Crabtree said: "Ray is a quality goalkeeper and it's good to have him on board. I've spoken to Dean Evans and explained the situation to him.

"Deano has done very well since stepping up to the first team last season and I still believe that he will be the number one at the club again, but we could do with just a bit more experience at the moment and Ray will certainly help Dean in training. He made a big impression on him last time he was with us".

Also joining the goalkeeping ranks is Lloyd Chamberlain, the current Frome Town Sports under 18s joint manager, who returns as further cover.

The third signing is defender Ben Millard, who moves from Toolstation League First Division side Larkhall Athletic. Millard played for the Robins as a youngster and progressed through the youth ranks at the same time as Billy Robinson, Joe Gomes and Simon Keates, but after failing to make a first team break through moved onto Larkhall.

After several seasons playing in the First Division he has now made the move back to his home town club Frome reserve team assistant manager Terry Bull said: "It will be good to get Ben involved and it's another local talent that after moving away has come back to Frome. He is a good defender and will bring move competition for places throughout the club."

The last addition to the squad was completed just before the win over Dawlish Town on Saturday when winger Steve Bridges agreed terms on a move from Southern League side and local rivals Paulton Rovers.

Bridges played for the Robins once before when he stared in a 1-0 win at Bridgwater Town in Andy Black's first game in charge, but moved to Paulton shortly afterwards.
