SEEND United ran out comfortable 6-0 home winners over First Division rivals Heytesbury in their preliminary round match of the Pied Piper Promotions-sponsored A and B Cup.

The home side were 3-0 up at the break, thanks to goals from Matthew Coles (2) and Dave Castle. The second half saw Castle score again and this was followed by strikes from Ralph Plummer and Barry Holloway.

Division Two Cup

AFC TROWBRIDGE Wanderers' first foray into the Bradfords Building Supplies sponsored Division Two Cup saw them gain a 2-0 first leg victory at Steeple Ashton.

Two-second half strikes from Dean Gumm and Robbie Allison saw off Ashton, who had dominated the match but could not score.

Hilperton United's players walked away from their game at Frome Town Sports A wondering what they had to do to score and also thinking about how they can pull back a two goal deficit.

The game started well for both sides, with each having plenty of chances to score the opening goal.

As the first half progressed it became obvious that it was going to be a mistake or a wonderful shot that was going to lead to a goal, as Hilperton missed a sitter from three yards.

The second half carried on where the first half left off, with chances for both teams. In the 78th minute Hilperton had the chance to open the score line from the penalty spot, but the weak spot kick was saved by Frome's goalkeeper.

Frome then went on the attack and scored through substitute Dave Clark. To top it all Shaun Cox hit a wonderful goal from 18 yards right on the stroke of full time to seal a 2-0 victory.

Semington Magpies wanted to bounce back after a disappointing result last week in their tie against Bratton. Semington started well and had a lot of pressure early on, but Bratton took the lead midway through the half with a header from 12 yards.

Simon Hillman made it all square after a goalmouth scramble, but just before half-time Bratton took the lead again when Magpies fell asleep at a corner.

Semington were in control of most of the second half but could not find a way through the Bratton back four. With only ten minutes left on the clock super sub Andrew Harrison scored from 25 yards to get Magpies back in the game. Richard Allum then got the winner for Semington with a towering header in stoppage time from a Nigel Hall corner.

Division One

THE only difference between Bradford United and Frome Town Sports was that Sports took the few chances they had, while Bradford missed theirs.

Frome took the lead with an excellent header from Paul Bendall, followed by a scrambled goal from Rhyzard Pawlak. Ryan Mortimer pulled one back for Bradford on the stroke of half-time but a goal by Frank Alexander and a penalty converted by Andrew Moore in the second half gave Sports a flattering 4-1 victory.

The Deverills travelled to Freshford with a very determined attitude and soon took the lead through Danny Hargreaves. The United defence was in total disarray and it was not long before the visitors added a second before the interval.

Freshford reorganised at half-time but, although they had most of the possession in the second half, they never really looked like scoring until the last 15 minutes when Andrew Backhouse pulled a goal back. Freshford continued to force the play but the Deverills held out to record a thoroughly deserved 2-1 victory.

League leaders North Bradley Saints, who were defending a 100 per cent record, were without their 18 goal leading scorer Scott Askew for their top of the table clash and lacked penetration in the early stages against a lively Blue Circle side.

The cement works men have been somewhat of a bogey team to the Saints in recent meetings and it was no surprise when they took the lead in the 10th minute when Peter Ayton hammered home a free kick.

The visiting forwards, well marshalled by the skilful Darrell Maxwell, were causing the home defence problems and should have added to their early lead before the Saints fought back, only to miss good chances to equalise when Darren Jones shot over the bar when well placed and Tom Pang had a fierce shot brilliantly saved by Blue Circle goalkeeper Ryan Marks.

In the second half North Bradley piled on the pressure and finally equalised in the 60th minute, when Tim Richards finished off a fine move and accurate cross from the left.

Minutes later Tom Pang narrowly failed to put the leaders ahead and rued the missed opportunity shortly afterwards when in the 72nd minute Darrell Maxwell put Blue Circle in front with a well struck volley from a great cross by Steve Martin.

During the final stages Saints tried desperately to save their unbeaten record but despite intense pressure could not get by an inspired Ryan Marks in the visitors' goal. When Martin Hemmens tapped in a third for Blue Circle in a last minute breakaway Saints were resigned to a 3-1 defeat and had to accept that it was just not their day.

Division Two

THE Lamb's poor start to the season continued as they lost again, this time to third placed Westbury United A.

Westbury were 2-0 up at half-time, thanks to goals from Siad Abriham and Sam McQueen. The second half saw Westbury continue to dominate and McQueen scored two more to complete his hat-trick. Paul Farrington scored a consolation goal for the Lamb. Tony Stevens from the Lamb stood in as the referee and had an excellent game.

Match of the day in Division Two saw second placed Lavington take on leaders AFC Trowbridge Town Youth Reserves and with both teams undefeated something had to give.

The match certainly lived up to its top billing and at half-time the teams were separated by the odd goal in three, with Trowbridge taking a 2-1 lead.

John Paul Chenoweth scored for Lavington, with Trowbridge's goals coming from Kieran Faraday and an own goal from the Lavington goalkeeper.

The second half saw Trowbridge increase the tempo and eventually maintain their 100 per cent start to the season as Faraday scored his second, which was followed by goals from Dan Crease and Tom Bonser. Not to be outdone, Chenoweth scored his second for Lavington but it was not enough as Trowbridge ran out winners 5-2.

Division Three

MELKSHAM Park's poor run continued as they lost 4-0 away to Calne Eagles.

The Eagles scored two goals in each half, through Sean Jefferies, Steve Mallard, Gary Keltey and Alfie Archer.

Second from bottom Mere Town beat second placed Bradford United Reserves 4-3. Simon Morris opened the scoring for Bradford before Shaun Helly scored twice to give the home side the lead. Chas Young equalised for United, only for Sean Snook to give Mere the half-time lead at 3-2. The second half saw Simon Morris score his second to tie the match before Chris Parfitt popped up to score Mere's winner.

Cross Keys recorded their fifth win of the seasons with a 3-2 victory away at The Stiffs. The game was evenly poised at half-time with the score at 1-1, Pete Stevenson scoring for The Stiffs and Nathan Emm for Cross Keys.

The second half saw Stevenson score his second, before a brace from Jamie Mullins sealed the match for Rowde.

The clash between The Trowbridge Ship and the Eleven Statues only came to life in the second half, with The Ship scoring first through Shaun Newble.

The Statues left it to the last minute to equalise through Jason Power.

Bradford Town A continue to climb the table after a 7-1 thumping of FC Chippenham Reserves. Bradford's goal scorers were Stuart Jones (2), Jason Povey (4) and Rob James. Chippenham's solitary goal came from Luke Turvey.
