ATHLETICS: BOX hosted the annual village Fun Run on Sunday with children and adults competing to raise funds for Bath Cancer Support.

A total of 145 runners completed the circular course from the recreation grounds in Box out to Ditteridge and back again.

Entrants had the option to run the 3.25 mile course once or twice, with the elite runners competing over the longer distance.

Co-organiser Mike Turner said the emphasis was on participation and enjoyment rather than competition.

He said: "It's very much a family fun run and the whole village seems to get involved.

"Anyone who knows Box knows the village is a hilly place so it's quite a challenging course.

"We all know somebody who has been affected by cancer, so this race is a great opportunity to show our support.

"So far we have raised more than £1,100 for charity but there's still plenty of money to come in.

"I would remind those who have yet to collect their sponsorship money to hand it in as soon as possible."

Corsham runner Rob Hayday was first across the line in the 6.5 mile men's race. Alison Vaughinaux from Bath took the 6.5 mile women's race ahead of Chippenham athlete Zena Marchant.

Zoe Eccleston and her daughter Izzie Sully, both from Box, took gold for the second consecutive year in the female veterans' and girls' under 15s categories.

Rudloe runner Caroline Tarashevif won the female open category, followed by Katie Curd of Box.

Chippenham-based Bart Thomas was the first of the under 15s boys to finish the 3.25 mile course.
