A TEAM from RAF Lyneham have won the RAF Artificial Ski Championships 2006, held at the indoor snow slope at Xscape in Castleford.

The team of four consisted of team captain Flt Lt Richard Fawkes (47 Sqn), Fg Off Steve Macdonald (LXX Sqn), Flt Lt Chris Coates (24/30 Eng) and Flt Lt James Sjoberg (47 Sqn).

Fawkes said:"With the top three individual performances to count towards the team competition, we hoped for a great performance from all members of the team - and we got it."

Macdonald and Fawkes finished with gold and silver medals respectively, Coates with a commendable 17th out of the 60 strong field and Sjoberg pulled out a great performance considering his lack of race experience finishing in a highly respectable 31st.

Competing as an individual, Fg Off Roger Titshall (24/30 Eng) finished in 36th place.

The team's time was nearly 10 seconds faster than their nearest rivals, RAF Linton On Ouse. RAF Marham came third.

The Lyneham team hope to repeat their success att the RAF Ski Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm in January.
