WESTBURY United continued their winning run in the Toolstation League First Division in an astonishing game at Meadow Lane last night.

United beat Backwell United 4-1, but the match finished nine a side after both teams had two players sent off.

An off the ball incident after 36 minutes between Westbury's Aaron Billett and Backwell's Callum Francomb saw Billett receive a yellow card and Francomb a second yellow in quick succession and a red.

Straight after half-time the teams were level on red cards when Westbury's Mark Pearce was sent off for stamping on Alex Wyatt in another off the ball incident.

And ten minutes from time an incident on the halfway line led to Lee Morgan of Westbury and Wyatt of Backwell being shown straight red card.

Westbury took the lead with a scrappy goal in the 21st minute. Luke Smith's corner was fumbled by visiting goalkeeper Gary Clarke and Nathan Hallett bundled the ball over the line.

Lee Meaden doubled the score after 58 minutes with his third goal of the season. David Whyte split the defence and Meaden rounded Clarke before easily rolling the ball over the line.

Backwell were soon back in the match as they scored the first goal Nick Evans has conceded for six matches. Evans saved well in a goalmouth scramble but Mike Reynolds was on hand to divert a header into the net.

Hallett scored a stunning goal with ten minutes remaining, his third in two first team starts. Evans launched a counter attack and Billett played the ball to Hallett who outpaced Nathan Best and unleashed a fierce left footed strike that flew past Clarke to restore a two goal advantage.

A minute from time Wayne Wheeler kept possession on the right wing. His cross fell to Smith whose shot was blocked by Clarke but the ball broke to David Thompson who lashed it into the top corner.
