THE Wiltshire Times and Chippenham News-sponsored Team of the Week award for October 8, 2006, has been awarded to Premier Division side Bradford News.

For a second successive week three teams put themselves in the running for the award and, just like last week, it was a close call; with Second Division FC Bradford, Third Division Chippenham United RAOB and Bradford News the three candidates.

FC Bradford claimed their first win of the season when they beat Fascia Graphics 4-2. Fascia were winning 2-0 at the interval before Bradford staged their fine comeback, with Jason Harford, Ashley Stiles, substitute Ryan Congdon, on his debut, and Steve Bryant sharing the goals.

Chippenham United RAOB also overturned a two goal deficit to claim a 2-2 draw against Biddestone White Horse. Biddestone looked set to record their second win of the season, but goals from Darren Tubbs and Martin Riddell earned United a point.

Bradford News may not have beaten Westbury Rangers A, but their 2-2 draw against a Rangers side who were bidding for a fourth straight victory in the Premier Division was good enough to earn them the Team of the Week award.

Rangers dominated the first half and should have had more than Tim Coombes' goal to show for their superiority. When Marc Lanfear added a second for Rangers it looked as if the newsmen were about to suffer a fifth successive defeat.

But Bradford had other ideas and turned the form book on its head as Tom Downing gave them a lifeline and Jason Povey headed home to tie the game and earn Bradford their first point of the season.
