WESTBURY Town entertained local rivals Westbury United A at their Bratton base and it was the hosts who claimed the bragging rights thanks to their 5-1 success.
Dave Tucker’s United side went into the derby day battle having scored 35 goals in their last three league outings, while Town had lost just one of their six games to date and they produced the goods and claimed maximum points to stay in third spot.
Phil Hampson put Westbury United A ahead but they found themselves 2-1 down at half time as goals from Luke Smith and Scott Walford put Town in front.
The second half saw Luke Smith increase his teams advantage, Daryl Maxwell stretch the lead even further before Ian Gray’s deflected effort wrapped up the win for the hosts.
The Lamb 4 FC Calne 3
RICHARD Stevens' table toppers The Lamb should have been playing Bryon Wanderers in the Junior Cup, but with the Wiltshire League One side opting to withdraw from the competition it gave the Lamb a walkover.
Instead of having a free weekend the in-form team quickly rearranged a league meeting with FC Calne and they were rewarded with win number 10 of the season.
Lamb may not have been at their best but they proved they have what it takes to win ugly as their 4-3 victory was probably the worst they had played to date.
Ryan Underwood saw his opener wiped out by Gary Stroud.
Lamb regained the lead when Craig Sheppard hit the target and when birthday boy Sam Stevens, who was celebrating his 22nd birthday, drove home a stunner to give them a 3-1 lead it looked as if it was going to be business as usual.
Calne fought back and reduced the arrears prior to half time with Steve Wordley scoring.
All of Calne’s good work late in the first half was undone when Gary Stroud put through his own net to give the hosts a 4-2 lead.
Calne tried to get back into the game but Lamb’s defence held firm until the final minute when they conceded a penalty which was calmly finished by player-manager Carl Lovelock.
The Stiffs 2 Melksham Town A 7
IT WAS second-from-bottom versus second-from-top when The Stiffs went head to head with Melksham Town A at St Augustine’s School in Trowbridge.
And for a seventh time this season it was the hosts who had to settle for second best as Melksham took the honours thanks to a 7-2 triumph.
Melksham, who played the game with 10 players, were up against a home side who themselves struggled for a side and had to include both Ade Giles and Keith Quadling, who are awaiting knee operations.
Nathan Litterick scored both goals for the Stiffs but Melksham, who led 3-0 at half time coasted to victory with Dan Waylan hitting a four-timer.
Leigh Rogers scored twice and youngster Bradley Butcher’s single made up Melksham’s seven.
Polenez Westbury 0 Bradford United Reserves 17
HAVING conceded 115 goals in all their eight league and cup matches to date, bottom-of-the-table Polenez Westbury were hoping for some respite when they hosted Bradford United Reserves, who themselves shipped 14 goals in their cup clash with Boomsbury a week ago.
But that wasn’t the case as Bradford, like those before them, romped to a 17-0 win. Polenez, to their credit, started the game with nine players and played the final 15 minutes with eight.
But at time they tried to play some good football although basic schoolboy errors in defence once again proved very costly.
Florian Fluit top scored with five, Aaron Burbedge and Sam Turner scoring three each.
Darren Brewer and Aiden Lane both hit two apiece and singles from Rob James and Ryan James made up the 17.
Westwood Social Club 3 Bratton Reserves 3
BRATTON Reserves visited Westwood Social Club looking for their third win of the campaign and hoping for a repeat of their thrilling 5-3 victory when the teams met a month ago.
On this occasion, the battle of Bobbin Lane ended all squared as Bratton came from behind to claim a 3-3 draw.
Tristan Buckland put Bratton ahead and they had the chance to double their lead when they were awarded a penalty, but Shane Rendell missed from the spot.
That allowed Westwood back into the game and they drew level through Tom Downes.
Paul Reynolds then gave the home team the lead and by the interval they had added a third with Nick Gleeson finding the target.
Bratton were much improved in the second half and halved the deficit through Matthew Jenkins who headed home a Darren Hudd corner.
Rendell went from zero to hero when he scored the goal for Bratton that earned them a point from a game they looked to be out of at the break.
