CORSHAM Town manager Trevor Rawlings was disappointed that his side couldn’t mark their 500th game in the Western League with a win.
Corsham invited former managers and players to Southbank for last weekend’s landmark match, but Rawlings’ men slipped to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Street.
“There was a good crowd there and there were a lot of familiar faces,” said the Corsham chief.
“I think that a lot of them hadn’t seen each other in a while, which was nice to see, but it’s a shame that we couldn’t have won the game, because then it would have been a nice day all round – it just wasn’t to be.”
Visitors Street took the lead in the first minute when Kye Palmer captalised on a defensive mix-up before Corsham’s Aaron Ledgister levelled the scores.
Then, in the second period, the away side clinched the winner in bizarre fashion when Phil Ormrod’s low strike took a wicked deflection off the turf and bounced into the net past Scott Windle.
“At first I thought the goal had been disallowed because they didn’t celebrate it and their lad just turned around and walked back to the centre circle,”said Rawlings.
“It was a blow that we never recovered from that’s something that I need to look at because we just huffed and puffed after that.
“They were two bad goals to give away but we never looked like getting back into the game at all.
“We’ve got a cup game this weekend but I’d rather get straight back to the league so we can try and get three points.”
Corsham go to Toolstation League Premier Division rivals Barnstaple Town in the first round of the Les Phillips Cup tomorrow.
Ledgister and Ali Rose are unavailable.
