Freshford United had to overturn a 2-1 half time deficit to take all three points from Westbury United Reserves, who they beat 3-2 to claim a third straight win over Pete Ayton’s men. Freshford, who are unbeaten at home this term, took the lead inside the five minutes when Andy Donald headed the villagers ahead. Parity was restored when Dan Cox made it one each when he scored from the penalty spot. A second penalty from Cox on the stroke on half time put Westbury in front.
Freshford may have felt aggrieved having had two penalties awarded against them but they won one of their own in the second half and Donald held his nerve to tie the game at two apiece.
With time running out, Freshford manager Hughie Fulton gambled by putting on Phil Little and on 80 minutes the gamble paid off when Little fired home the goal that wrapped up the hosts' 3-2 success.
Castle Combe 1 Semington Magpies 0
The first half was an even contest, with both teams creating chances but unable to find the net, and the scores remained goalless at half time.
The second half was a mirror of the first, however the pace of Lee Fernandez was causing the Semington defence plenty of problems, and it was his through ball to Carl Dawson which unlocked the defence for Dawson to fire his shot into the bottom left corner to put Combe one nil up seven minutes from time.
Semington pressed for the equalizer but the Combe defence held firm.
Seend United 3 Broughton Gifford 1
With no win in their last three matches, Seend United at last found the form that saw them beat Freshford United 1-0 at the end of September as they claimed a 3-1 win on home soil over Broughton Gifford.
Mike Haines saw his first half effort for Seend cancelled out by Chris Braine’s equaliser for Broughton. Alex Fell regained the lead for Seend and a second for Haines sealed Seend’s third win of the season.
Trowbridge Wanderers 1 Melksham Town Reserves 0
With Melksham Town Reserves and Freshford United currently having games in hand on leaders Trowbridge Wanderers, manager Dan Mercer knew his side really needed the three points on offer when they hosted Melksham.
It had been a tough week for Wanderers after the shock departure of captain Matthew Jones to Boomsbury, but Mercer’s men showed no signs of missing him with a fantastic spirited performance in what was a hard fought game.
Melksham looked lively early on as they caught their hosts flat footed at the back, but after the first ten minutes, Wanderers really settled down and played some good football.
Otis Young was a constant threat to the Melksham defence as they struggled to handle him but it was Dan Price who made the breakthrough midway through the half when Mercer whipped in a corner that saw centre half Price rise above everyone and power in a great header.
Wanderers then missed a few chances to go two up, most notably when Craig Gornall broke through but one-on- ne with the keeper, he could only find the side netting.
The second half was again very tight but with Wanderers going close to increasing their lead through Young.
Melksham pressed for an equaliser, but Wanderers' defence held firm with man of the match Dan Price mopping up things at the back.
