DARREN Perrin is hoping to celebrate his 43rd birthday tomorrow by guiding Frome Town through to the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy.

The Robins host Evo-Stik League Southern Division One South and West outfit Thatcham Town at Badgers Hill and Perrin is eyeing a cup run for his side.

“We want to do well in the competition for the publicity that it brings the club and the financial rewards that come with it,” said the Frome manager.

“We know all about Thatcham and we’re under no illusions – we know it’s going to be a tough game because they’re doing well in their league.”

Perrin has also given his thanks for the support offered to his family after his father Mick, formerly the chairman of Melksham Town, was taken ill with double pneumonia while on holiday in the Caribbean.

“Dad flew home on Wednesday and we’re hoping that he’ll be released from the Royal United Hospital in Bath) by Saturday,” said Perrin.

“We want to thank all of the friends and family and the people in football that have given their support to us with phone calls and messages – it’s been very reassuring.”

Last weekend, Frome were beaten 2-1 at St Albans City in the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier.

Sakho Bakare stunned the Robins with a quick-fire double in the dying moments of the first half, with the striker firing in a low effort in the first minute of added time before heading home in the second.

Luke Ballinger’s curling free-kick reduced the deficit late on.
