A SEVEN-TRY bonanza may have been the perfect way for Bath to start their LV= Cup campaign, but back row Ben Skirving has told his teammates they will need to adapt their playing style depending on their opposition this season.
Skirving sat out last weekend's 46-16 triumph over Newport Gwent Dragons as a bonus-point victory left the Recreation Ground side in a strong position to qualifying from their pool.
A similar result against Worcester tomorrow (2.15pm) would all but secure the club's place in the knockout stages but former Saracens man Skirving knows the Warriors’ mean defence will prove a tough nut to crack.
“We were very pleased with the performance (at Newport) because a lot of the hard work we had put in during the training sessions showed,’’ said the 28-year-old.
“It was great to get the seven tries and we were very clinical in terms of attack and defence. You have to take the opportunities when they arise and we did that last weekend.
“We want to try and play the expansive game that Bath is famous for but you have to strike a balance, depending on the opposition you are up against.
“It’s about creating that variety and balance so you are able to adapt to what is happening in front of you.
“Worcester are a strong team and they work hard for each other, but we wanted to put into practice what we do during the week.’’ Youngsters Olly Woodburn and Tom Heathcote were among the points last weekend and Skirving added: “These guys have slotted seamlessly into the squad.
“They have been training with the senior team and it's very positive for the squad. The coaches have backed these youngsters and pushed them forward and they've done really well, which is a boost for everyone.’’
Bath have ticket offers available for the game, including a group offer for six or more people with adult tickets £18 and juniors £11.
Family tickets are available at adults £15 and juniors £5 based on a minimum of one adult and one child.
Children can also get in for £5 with a paying adult.
Details are available by telephoning the ticket office on 0844 448 1865.
