CHIPPENHAM made it back to back league victories for the first time this season as they continued to climb the league table.

The Allington Field hosts went in front after eight minutes when second row Adrian Price drove over from short range for his fifth try of the season.

Barnstaple hit back on 16 minutes, kicking three points when Chippenham gave away a soft penalty at the breakdown.

But two minutes later Chippenham full-back Chris Simmons chased down his own kick, charged down the attempted clearance and touched down before fly-half Lewis Surry booted a penalty.

Two tries in six minutes from the visitors turned the match in their favour, one of which was converted as they held a two-point advantage at half time.

Barnstaple had three opportunities to extend their lead early in the second half, but landed just one of the penalties.

A quarter of an hour into the half, Mike Beswick scored his second try of the season to tie the scores and the introduction of sub Tom Baldwin boosted the home side’s effort.

Price touched down for yet another try – third week in a row he had scored a double – and Surry landed a penalty to leave the hosts eight points clear.

Barnstaple ensured some late nerves with a try with two minutes left but Chippenham held on for victory.
