REIGNING champions Devizes 1 got the better of their clubmates Devizes 2 41-14 in the opening match of the Premier Division.

Becki Gaiger returned to the shooting circle, applying pressure to the hard-working second team defence of Rosie Brewer and Debbie Pearce Players of the match were Hannah Sedgwick for the first team and Sam Lee for the second string.

Wessex Blades A 49 TNC 22

Wessex Blades A claimed victory in their opening match of the season against TNC.

A nervous first quarter saw TNC take a narrow advantage but, driven on by captain Kim Green and coach Becky Lewis, Blades fought back to lead 35-15 after the third quarter.

Accurate shooting from Alice Baker helped them close out the game.

Wessex Samurais 30 Frome 8

THE Samurais jumped out to an 8-3 first-quarter lead thanks to goals made by Bryony Haine (GA) and Liz Jochum (GS), Jo Chalmers adding further goals in the second quarter to take the scored to 15-3.

Both teams made further changes to their line ups for the third quarter, Frome coming back with five goals.

But the interceptions of Autumn Wilcox and the accurate passing of Camilla Hill (WA) and player of the match Charlotte Smith (C) took the Samurais clear again.

Wessex Sabres 23 Devizes 4 11

THE Sabres began well, taking a 7-0 lead by the end of the opening quarter and, despite Devizes’ efforts they were unable to get back on terms.

Wessex’s Sophine Levine and Devizes’ Emily Hues were players of the match.

Holt B 22 Devizes 3 40

BOTH sides made a good start but it was Devizes who managed turnover ball resulting in a 12-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Holt made changes, but Devizes’ changes meant Holt scored only twice in the third quarter.

Holt rallied in the final quarter but Devizes were comfortable winners, Holt’s Angela Eade and Devizes’ Emily Rugg being players of the match.

Holt C 31 Devizes 5 21

The first outing for the new Devizes team 5 saw the accuracy of the Holt shooters prove too much in the last quarter.

Players of the match were Holt’s Kathryn Foster and Devizes’ Sarah Flemming.

Pewsey Vale 14 KSM White 10

PEWSEY made their debut in Division Three of the Moonraker League with a win.

Vale, coached by Vicki Seth and featuring newcomers Carrie Talbot and Julia Bradford, were boosted by strong centre court play from Caroline Bennett, Donna Mercer and Lucy Park, Elaine Haynes scoring all 14 goals against strong winds.
