TROWBRIDGE Academy of Boxing made a winning start to the new season at a card hosted by Broadplain Boxing Club in Bristol.
There was a majority points win for Richey Hogarth, while Jono Hogarth and Cory Smitherman had wins in the first round of the Clubs for Young People (CYP) competition.
The Academy are hoping to build on last season’s successes, which saw Joe Edwards, Smitherman, Ryan Wheeler and Jono Hogarth represent the Western Counties.
Smitherman, who has been sponsored by local businessman Andy Gee (Andy Gee Architectural Joinery), also reached the semi-finals of the CYP and Junior ABA National Championships and Wheeler reached the semi-finals of the Junior ABA’s, while Jono Hogarth was a losing finalist.
The club will host three shows this season, the first being a black tie dinner show being held at the White Horse Country Park, Westbury, on November 19 at 7pm.
Tickets are £35 per head or £350 per table of 10, which includes a three-course dinner, auction and race night. Further shows follow on February 17 and May 11 next year.
Anybody wishing to support the club, purchase tickets or sponsor one of the Academy’s boxers can contact either Simon Edwards (coach) on 07970 022949 or Steve Noad (chairman) on 07860 456724.
