I’VE been in Nigeria for three or four weeks, but the satellite feed over there comes from South Africa so I’ve seen the Rugby World Cup games while I’ve been away.

It’s been interesting to watch a game and then not get the constant 24-hour feedback you would have over here.

It means I’ve missed out on a lot of what has been written and said about England’s demise, but the inquest is now in full flow.

It’s pretty clear the off-field antics engulfed these guys and you just had a situation where the only way they were going to shut the thing up was by doing the business on the pitch.

Watching from afar, you just felt that they never really got going during this tournament.

They were a very difficult side to beat – perhaps in a Martin Johnson-type way – but against France, the scoreline flattered them in the end.

France played for 20 minutes and then held them off for the rest of the match and although England pressed, the basic skills were lacking which really hindered them.

In terms of Johnson’s future, who is now really making this decision at the RFU?

It’s all a bit of a mess at the moment.

So, as we reach the semi final stage, I’m not going to change my original feelings about who could go all the way, namely Australia and France.

But we are in a strange situation now because I feel that both France and Australia could defeat New Zealand, but that Wales probably wouldn’t.

However, Wales must start favourites to beat France in their semi final and, if they played Australia in the final, I think they could win that one.

It’s an exciting time for Wales.

They are the fittest side in the tournament and no team has played with their line speed, something I haven’t seen for a long time.

You expect big things from that team.

The clever team left in the tournament are Australia but if they got to the final, having overcome the All Blacks and South Africa, would it be a games too far for them?

On form, I would have to say Wales and probably New Zealand will make the final.
