FORMER England star Steve Ojomoh insists English rugby should not rush to judgment on Martin Johnson’s future as national team boss – but admits his former international colleague could pay the price for his loyalty after their Rugby World Cup debacle.
Bath hero Ojomoh, 41, who played alongside Johnson at the 1995 tournament in South Africa, concedes changes will have to be made in the England coaching set-up after they were dumped out of the World Cup at the quarter-final stage.
The 12-times capped forward, who lives in Trowbridge, said: “It is too early to make these calls (on Johnson’s future).
“He has grown in the job during his time and if he loses it, it will be down to his loyalty to some of the coaches he has had working for him when he could have changed them.
“The RFU (Rugby Football Union) is the biggest union in the world, with the deepest pockets and I can’t see how they can’t go out and get the best coaches in the business for England.
“People like Nick Mallett (former South Africa and Italy coach) are available so why can’t we go out and get these people.’’
