CHIPPENHAM secured another valuable five National Three South West points as their depleted line-up came up with the goods on the road.
Minus 12 members of the squad through injury or other commitments, they fell behind on five minutes when Amersham went in front with a well taken try from Ross Bugden.
This spurred Chippenham into life and they spent long periods camped deep in their opponents’ half.
However it took until just before half time to unlock the home defence as Bobby Lyons burst through the defence to score and Sam Saunders converted to tie the scores up.
Chippenham went further in front early in the second half as Lyons was on hand to finish off a well-worked move.
Amersham came back into it when Chippenham scrum-half Lewis Surry was sin-binned for a technical offence and they levelled matters as Dwayne Polataivao touched down.
A man down Chippenham dug deep and played the best rugby of the game, going in front with a try from Adrian Price, following a rolling maul.
Chippenham maintained the pressure but had two tries disallowed. and a breakaway try by Amersham saw them level through No 8 Tom Grammenos minutes from the end.
However, with scrum half Ollie Watkins now on the field making his debut, Chippenham continued to press and with two minutes left, second row Price was driven over, Surry landing the conversion.
