CORSHAM Town this morning confirmed that they had parted company with manager Mel Gingell after four years in charge at the Southbank.

The news came just a day before the Toolstation League Premier Division side are due to start their new season, with an away match at Bridport.

No reason was given for Gingell's exit, although the manager had already admitted Town were facing an uphill task this season after the departure of a large portion of their first-team squad.

Reserve team boss Trevor Rawlings, who led Corsham's second string to the Wiltshire League Premier Division title last season, will take over from Gingell.

A club statement said: "Corsham Town Football Club can confirm that first team manager Mel Gingell has parted company with the club after reaching agreement over the terms of his departure during a meeting on Thursday night.

"The committee would like to thank Mel for his contribution and achievements since taking over in July 2007, which included finish in the top five in his first season and a famous victory at Truro City.

"In the last few years Mel should be applauded for operating without a playing budget and maintaining the club's Western League Premier status.

"His time at the helm has not been without controversy and the club gave him their full support through a number of FA disciplinary charges and a lengthy touchline ban.

"His replacement will be Trevor Rawlings who managed the reserve team to the Wiltshire Premier League title last season.

"Trevor’s enthusiastic and professional display over the past 12 months has impressed the committee and he has put together a promising squad of skilful young players.

"Current assistant manager Graham Learmouth will continue in his role at the club.''
