LEANNE Tiley celebrated a late birthday present as she won the women’s race at the Wiltshire Times Trowbridge Triathlon on Sunday.
Tiley, of Westbury Leigh, who was 30 last week, clocked one hour, 18 minutes and 18 seconds as she came home 26th overall.
The freelance beauty therapist, who started doing triathlons four years ago and whose sister Vicky Hier also competed, said: “It was a nice way to finish the week.
“I did the race in 2009 and finished fourth. It’s nice to have local races like the Trowbridge one and I enjoyed it.’’
Hampshire’s Chris Birch clinched the overall prize.
Trailing significantly behind on time after the swimming section, Bordon’s Birch, of the Eaststreetcycles.com team, produced a bike ride nearly two minutes faster than anyone else and followed up with the second quickest five kilometre run to finish in top spot in one hour, six minutes and 20 seconds.
Less than 15 seconds adrift in second was Trowbridge teenager Matthew Griffin, the recent winner of the Warminster Triathlon.
Griffin, 18, produced one of the quickest swims of the day and claimed the first male junior prize ahead of Max Hazell, who finished fourth overall behind Team Endurance’s Lewis Andrews, in 1:07:52.
First home for the host team DB Max Tri was another Trowbridge youngster Kieran Hill, 17, who was also third junior male home, in fifth overall.
DB Max’s Brett Flook, in his first year of triathlon, put in another storming performance to be second veteran home in 10th overall, two places behind veteran winner Jon Downing (MVH).
The triathlon was set in the grounds of Clarendon College, with the 400m swim taking place in Trowbridge pool followed by a 25k bike ride through the villages of Southwick, Dilton Marsh and North Bradley, ending with a 5k run.
Running alongside the main event was the Tri Star Aquathlon, which saw children take part in a swim-run event.
Race organiser Will Whitmore, of DB Max, said: “One of the great things about this year was all the extra kids we had.
“Our partners Trowbridge Amateur Swimming Club were there in force with many of their young ones performing well.
“We also had five DB Max Tri children taking part in their first-ever event.’’ He added: “We also have to thank the local farmer, Carriages for Marriages, Trowbridge Town Football Club and the Trowbridge Lions as we couldn’t stage the event without their support.’’
