THE inter club match between King Billy and Avon on the Bristol Avon at Lacock on Sunday went to Avon, whose 45lb 13oz saw off their rivals’ 38lb 7oz.

Marcus Crook of Avon was top individual with roach and skimmers weighing 13lb 10oz, taken from the Golden Peg and giving him £385.

Teammate Pete Mills was next with chub, roach and skimmers weighing 10lb 12oz, followed by Kevin Boltz of King Billy with roach and skimmers weighing 9lb 15oz.

Other placings: 4 Martin Rayett, King Billy 9lb 12oz; 5 Duncan Smith, Avon 8lb 10oz; 6 Nigel Smith, Avon 8lb 10oz.

Bream made up the bulk of the weights in Sunday’s Wilts Angling Open match at Lodden Lakes where Frome’s Roland Lucas took top spot with bream and tench weighing 51lb 14oz.

Mick Gunning from Trowbridge was runner up with 37lb 9oz of bream, followed by Terry Gatty from Melksham with 34lb of bream and carp.

Other placings: 4 Mark Harper, Preston Innovation Thatchers 32lb; 5 Dean Adams, Bradford 28lb 11oz; 6 Kevin Grant, Trowbridge 25lb 5oz.

Paul Dressler clinched Ivy House’s Tuesday evening Open match with 55lb 12oz of carp and silvers.

In-form Gary Etheridge from Devizes was runner up with 54lb 4oz of carp and silver, followed by Larry Laing of Ivy House with 37lb 13oz of carp and silvers and Chippenham’s Mick Gale with a mixed 33lb haul.

GLOUCESTER’S Adrian Narberth won Saturday’s Chippenham Open match on the Bristol Avon with 10lb 11oz of roach.

Home matchman Steve Palmer was second with 8lb 14oz of perch, followed by Kevin Williams with 8lb 13oz 8dm of roach.

Other placings: 4 Trevor Chalk, Gloucester 8lb 8oz; 5 Mark Wooldridge, Chippenham 6lb 15oz; 6 Gary Etheridge, Devizes 6lb 13oz.

Devizes’ Andy Jones won the Sunday Lavington match at Baldham Mill with 3lb 3oz of gudgeon.

Fellow Devizes angler Ray Sheridan was next with dace and roach weighing 2lb 7oz, followed by Melksham veteran Jim Escott with 2lb 1oz of gudgeon.

Other placings: 4 Chris Brown, Worton 2lb; 5 Kevin Morris, Devizes 1lb 13oz; 6 Tony Weeks, Lavington 1lb 12oz.

The Avon Commercial League match was fished in terrible weather at Tockingham on Sunday.

Competitors faced thunder and lightning but Chippenham’s Premier Gold had a great day to take team honours with 36 points followed by Old Uns & Young Uns with 28 and Thornbury and Spartans both with 26.

Individual honours of the day went to Alex Hyde of Chippenham, fishing for Premier Gold, with 74lb 12oz of carp.

Teammate Mark Wooldridge was runner up with carp and bream weighing 48lb 5oz, followed by Dave Poole of Old Uns & Young Uns with 43lb 13oz of bream.

Other placings: 4 Kevin Williams, Premier Gold 40lb 6oz; 5 Ian Stainer, Airsprung 34lb; 6 Neil Harvey, Premier Gold 31lb 4oz.
