LOOKING back at it, we (Wiltshire) lost the Championship game against Cheshire in two sessions – the last one on the second day (Monday) and the first one on the third.

We lost a bit of discipline in our bowling effort. There were two guys at the crease really going for us and our players looked shattered in the field.

Their scoring rate went mad then the next morning, we had a bad spell and were six or seven down by lunch.

But I was really proud of the two lads Ashur (Morrison) and Paul (Simmons) because they are primarily bowlers.

They batted very well indeed and put us right back into the game, in terms of trying to get a draw.

It was a record eighth-wicket stand for Wiltshire and all credit to them.

That left Cheshire with 18 overs to reach their target and they got home in the penultimate over.

We dropped two catches in the first three overs and their lad (Chris Tipper) went on to score 42.

Had those catches stuck, there could have been a different complexion on the game.

We got a couple of wickets and had a couple more gone down the whole dynamic of the game would have changed.

But considering where we were at lunchtime it was a great effort by the boys.

This season has been a big learning curve for all of the team and I think we have improved.

We haven’t changed the team too much recently because I think we have got the basis of a good side there.

We’ve got programmes ready for some of the players over the winter months and we’ve been putting performance targets in during matches and doing quite well in those games.

The demeanour of the side has totally changed during the course of this season and I think that bodes well for the future.

We’ve got one more Championship match left at Shropshire in a couple of weeks and it would be great to end with a positive result.
