HANNAH Grubb’s superb season has continued after she added the Midland Counties’ U17 women’s pole vault title to her recent victories in the British and English Schools’ Championships.

The 16-year-old from Cornbrash Rise in Hilperton equalled her personal best of 3.60m to lift the title and set a new championship record, an achievement that also earned her a special silver plate.

“I am delighted with that and I would like to thank my coach Tim Snowdon for the support he gave me while I was out injured for 10 months,” said Grubb, who is due to start studying sport and exercise science at Bath College in September.

“He has really given me a lot of confidence this season.”

In July, Grubb completed an amazing two weeks when she soared to her first national title in Gateshead with a personal best of 3.60m.

Grubb, a former student at St Laurence School, Bradford on Avon, then cleared 3.40m on Saturday to beat the best from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales in Cardiff and claim the British title.

She only returned to competition in April from a 10-month lay-off with a stress fracture in her back and is also a talented gymnast, but is now concentrating on the pole vault.

There was also a gold medal for Hardenhuish School student Loren Bleaken in the U17 women’s 800m (2:14.06).

Bradford on Avon runner Alex Carter’s end-of-season flourish following injury continued with second place in the U17 men’s 1500m, clocking a time of 4mins 12.49secs, his second fastest time.
