PAUL Bates has targeted victory at Ashcott & Shapwick on Saturday after admitting his side literally handed Glastonbury victory.
Chippenham had the Somerset side in trouble at 55-5 at Hardenhuish Park, but the sixth-wicket partnership of Reg Keates (46*) and skipper Rob Travers (75*) turned it around.
Bates though conceded his men were the architects of their own downfall after dropping Travers on no fewer than five occasions.
“About three of them were tough catches and the other two should have been taken, but you would hope at least one would stick,’’ said Bates.
“We’ve only got ourselves to blame in that sense and it was a shame.”
With four games left Chippenham remain in the drop zone, but with bottom half sides Westbury, Keynsham and Warminster still to play, the survival battle remains wide open.
“We could do with winning three of those and even two might put us into a position,’’ added Bates.
“Westbury and Bristol West Indians still have to play Taunton (bottom side) so you imagine they would get victories in those games.
“But if we could get a win at Ashcott this weekend, it could be an important one for us.’’ Teenage Gloucestershire second team ace Uzi Qureshi followed up his century against Gloucester City Winget last week with a useful knock of 83.
