WILL GILES claimed five wickets all clean bowled to lead Chippenham under 15s to an impressive 145 run away win over Purton on the opening day of the new Wiltshire Youth Cricket League season.
Giles finished with figures of five for 28 from 7.1 overs as Purton were bowled out for 123. Earlier, Chippenham had made 268 for three declared in 40 overs, with Tom Young top scoring with 76. Elsewhere, South Wilts romped to a 231 run home win over Cannings.
Rob Pittman (42), Jamie Bennett (56), Ben Upton (64) and Jamie Crarer (55) were the major scorers as South Wilts reached 248-4 in their 45 overs. Luke Rapson, with figures of three for 47 off seven overs, was the leading wicket taker for Cannings.
Cannings were bowled out for 17 in reply, with Dominic Webb, (5-3-1-4), Arthur Webb (4-4-0-2) and Charlie Smith (3-0-13-2) the leading bowlers. All other league matches in all age divisions were cancelled because of bad weather.
