ATHLETICS: A FIELD of 70 runners lined up in Lambrok Road for the Trowbridge 10K organised by the Lions Club in support of Bath Cancer Unit.

A group of three runners broke away early on as the race entered Southwick Country Park for the first of two challenging laps. Before halfway, last year's winner, Michael Bryant of Avon Valley Runners, dropped off the pace, leaving Andy Bennetts, of Chippenham Harriers, and Avon Valley's new recruit Andy Hawkins engaged in a game of 'cat and mouse'.

Andy Bennetts made the decisive break in the final kilometre to win in 36:52, with Andy Hawkins second in 37:12. Michael Bryant held on for third place in 39:13.

In the ladies' race Diane Hier, of Warminster Running Club, put in a strong run to finish ninth overall to take first spot from Linda Ladner and Kathy Kinsey, both of Avon Valley Runners.
