BRADFORD Town Reserves coasted to victory in Tuesday night's Trowbridge League AM Print and Copy-sponsored Spring Cup final.
On a cold and wet evening a crowd of some 200 witnessed a sportingly played contest in far from ideal conditions. Bradford Town Reserves, with players of an average age of 23, dominated the contest against a much older team Stiffs team, whose average age was 34 and included midfielder Pete Ross, who is 44.
The Stiffs had to play five exciting games, including two replays, to reach this final, whereas Bradford played only three. The Stiffs are to be congratulated for reaching the final and it can be considered a reward for battling all season with very little success.
Bradford opened the scoring in the first minute and added three more, thanks to Jason Povey (2), Steve Bryant and Stewart Powell, to go in 4-0 up at the break. They added five more goals in the second half, through Charlie Powell (2), Ben Ludwell, Mark Robinson and Povey, to complete his hat-trick.
Man-of-the-match was Jason Povey. The Stiffs, to their credit, battled all the game without any success.
