WARMINSTER Town's hopes of lifting the Premier Division title in the Plaister Autos Wiltshire League were all but ended when they lost 2-1 at Westside.
It was a second defeat in four days for Warminster, who were beaten 2-1 at Calne Town Reserves in midweek, and they now seem to have lost any chance of overhauling the leaders. Tom Welsh scored Warminster's consolation goal.
Down Ampney put six past AFC Trowbridge Youth when the sides met at Ampney a few weeks ago but the boot was on the other foot at Trowbridge, the home side running out 4-1 winners. The hosts were quickly into their stride and two goals from Dave Percival in a five minute spell gave them an interval lead.
In an eventful second half, Paul Gittens came off the bench to put the finishing touch to an excellent run by Dean Murden and followed up with another a few minutes later. Ampney failed to help their cause by having Neill Quinn and Mark Harper sent off for two yellow cards, Quinn scoring a consolation before his early bath.
There was some good football played at Aldbourne where the home side came out 4-2 winners against New College.
Both sides got the ball down and played some neat football despite a blustery wind. The home side got off to a good start with an early goal from Gary Ashford, the College fighting back to get on level terms with a strike from Scott Campbell.
After the interval Eddie Edwards made it 2-1 for the home side with Rob Gulley scoring a third and Ashford a fourth. Aldbourne's Jamie Blake was sent off for a bad tackle and Brian Blake put through his own goal to register a second for the College.
Purton Reserves were out of luck at Pewsey Vale going down to two first half goals from Craig McClaren-Kennedy and former Trowbridge Town favourite Russell Fishlock.

Marlborough Town were leading Barron Heating 2-0 at one stage but the Swindon side fought back to run out 5-2 winners. Rick Hounslow and Justin Guinerie scored for the Town and Ryan Gardiner (2), Arron Wilson (2) and Johnny Coole for Barron.
Stratton Rovers missed a hatful of chances against Castle Combe and paid the penalty in the second half when the visitors snatched a goal to level the scores 1-1. Paul Webb scored for Rovers and Chris Yeo for the visitors.
Chiseldon Castrol scored the only goal of the game against Purton A but it was enough to make sure of the Division Two title and maintain their unbeaten record. Phill Burchell was the scorer on the half hour.
