JON Parker hailed the performance of his Westbury players as "absolutely awesome" on Saturday after the White Horse men crushed league leaders Supermarine at Leighton Green.
Supermarine had conceded only 99 league points before kick-off but the Swindon outfit were comprehensively swept aside by a resurgent Westbury who have now won their last five league games.
Parker was in buoyant mood after what must go down as the most surprising result of the Dorset and Wilts One season, but the Westbury coach was insistent it was a victory he always believed possible.
"We didn't just win the game, they had nothing to reply with," he said. "Supermarine were completely and utterly outplayed. "They had conceded only 99 points before this match and we put 34 past them. That was certainly one of our best performances for at least three or four years. I've not stopped smiling since."
Parker revealed the secret to the remarkable success was a pre-match team talk in which the Westbury coach played down any hopes of victory over promotion favourites Supermarine .
Said Parker: "I said to the boys before the game, let's assume we have already lost this one,' so we could forget about the score and just play how we wanted to. Supermarine were shell-shocked at the final whistle."
With just two league wins prior to January 22, Westbury looked certain candidates for relegation, but Parker's charges have found renewed vigour in recent weeks and now sit seven points clear of 10th placed Pewsey Vale with a game in hand.
Supermarine drew first blood on Saturday when a grubber kick dissected the Westbury back line and wing Marv Woodhouse dived on the bobbling ball to give his side a 5-0 lead.
The White Horse men powered back with a try of their own minutes later. Westbury won a line-out on the visitors' 22 metre line and formed a solid ruck, which gave Lee Stallard a platform to break through the usually watertight Marine defence to score.
Chris Vaughan kicked the extras to give Westbury a 7-5 lead. The two sides then traded penalties before Westbury centre Dan Rea extended the hosts' advantage to seven points with an unconverted try after 33 minutes. Veteran flanker Alec Balchin broke through a weak tackle and his off-load was moved swiftly along the backs for Rea to sprint beyond the desperate Marine defence.
The league leaders reduced their arrears to just two points in the last minute of the first half with a well-worked try, Woodhouse again touching down in the corner. But Westbury surged forward again in stoppage time when Rea profited from another line-out win to score his second try of the game.
This time Vaughan made no mistake with the conversion and Leighton Green was buzzing as the teams changed round at half time with the score 22-13 in Westbury's favour.
Skipper James Wild lead the second-half charge when he darted through the Marine defence from 10 metres to score just wide of the posts and present Vaughan with his easiest conversion of the game.
Marine threw everything at their hosts but failed to breach the resolute Westbury defence. With his own try line under siege, fly half Vaughan kicked a high cross-field ball to Matt Inseal who sprinted clear to extend the lead to 34-13.
A defensive lapse allowed Marine hooker Danny James to score a late consolation try, but Westbury were already celebrating a stunning victory by then. Parker has hinted he may rest a few familiar faces for tomorrow's Bath Combination Plate encounter against Somerset outfit Midsomer Norton.
