BOWLS: WILTSHIRE short mat bowls squad qualified for the All-England county knockout final for the first time in their history on Sunday with an impressive win over Cornwall.
Family and friends joined the 20-strong squad on the coach to Wootton, near Northampton, for the semi-final clash, which was played at the Caroline Chisholm School.
Trailing 6-2 after the opening session, the Wiltshire team fought back in the pairs and triples format to level the scores at 8-8 at the half-way stage.
The singles and fours maintained the pressure on their Cornwall counterparts by winning two of the four games in a tense third session.
The final session was another nailbiting affair, with most games not decided until the final end.
Wiltshire's persistence eventually prevailed as the team won three points to claim a deserved 18-14 victory and a place in Sunday's final.
Wiltshire will face stiff opposition in the shape of Kent, who defeated Northamptonshire in the second semi-final. The match will be played at Chisholm School.
