WESTBURY UNITED boss Paul Brickley was relieved to see his side beat Roman Glass St George 2-1 on Tuesday after admitting they “pressed the self-destruct button”.
With the hosts a goal up, keeper Nick Evans attempted to clear a wayward backpass, which rebounded into the goal off an oncoming St George attacker to level the game in bizarre fashion.
“It was a sloppy goal to give away,” said Brickley.
“We lost composure and the lads started arguing with each other so in the end, I’m happy with the win.”
Westbury’s top scorer Dan Kovacs gave his side the lead in the first-half; beating two defenders and finishing well after being fed by Luke Smith.
Kovacs and Smith combined again in the second-half to set up Matty Smith and save Westbury’s blushes.
On Saturday, Brickley’s men claimed a point away to Hengrove Athletic with a 1-1 draw.
Rhys Schell grabbed Westbury’s goal after being put through by Kovacs.
“I’m very happy with our last two results and four points from two games is very good in such a tight league,” said Brickley.
Westbury travel to Devizes Town this weekend and could include Matthew Sharp after he re-signed from Melksham Town.
Nathan Hallett is still suspended and Ashley Groves will also miss out after picking up a 56-day ban for an incident in Sunday League football.
