Gymnastics: Nine-year-old Toby Lewis from Hilperton has returned from Newcastle where he formed part of the South West Gymn-astics team that competed in the Men’s Gymnastics Regional Performance Grades.

It is a national competition where all the regions in the UK are invited, the standard is always very high and this year was no exception.

In a hard-fought competition Toby was a key player in the South West team which won the silver medal.

Toby’s most successful piece was floor where he completed an excellent routine to finish in sixth place.

He also recently competed in the national Elite Grades in Ipswich. The event is the highest level national competition that Toby is currently eligible to enter.

All the top young gymnasts in the country werecompeting.

He was consistent over all apparatus to finish in a credible overall 16th place.

His highlight was the vault where he finished in a fantastic fifth place and he also completed a brilliant floor where he was sixth.

This was Toby’s second competition of 2009 as he also competed in Dagen-ham at the London Open in March.

In London, Toby again had an extremely successful competition, performing to an excellent standard on all apparatus and finishing fifth overall.

He showed he had considerable ability on floor where he was second and he was also third on the horizontal bar.

Toby attends Hilperton Primary School and undertakes his gymnastics training at Baskerville’s School of Gymnastics.

He is part of Basker-ville’s junior elite squad and trains under the guidance of former World Champion gymnast Leve-nte Molnar-Schondorfer.

At the moment Toby is training 16 hours per week at Baskerville’s.

He is due to compete in the Baskerville’s cup in June before travelling to Maidstone to take part in the Pegasus Open.
