Cricket: Biddestone were frustrated in their efforts to maintain their unblemished league record on Saturday when their game at Wootton Bassett was ended prematurely by rain.

Kris Boulton’s side had won their first two games in the Glos/Wilts league and looked set for win number three when they restricted Wootton Bassett to under 200 runs.

Biddestone’s new ball partnership of Naeem Khan and Dwaine Perry, one of the most feared in the division, again impressed with figures of 4-43 and 4-62 respectively.

Just eight balls were possible in the visitors’ reply before the rain came and no further play was possible.

“The areas surrounding the wicket were the problem as there were no full covers, just plastic sheets,” said Boulton. “It was just a matter of running out of time.

“If the rain had come earlier we might have had a chance.”

Biddestone host Gloucester City Winget on Saturday.

l NO play was possible in Wiltshire’s MCCA Trophy game against Devon on Saturday due to rain.

James Hibberd’s side remain top of group three with five points and a run rate of 2.05 and will be crowned regional winners should they beat Cornwall on May 31.

Second-placed Devon (five points) have now played all their matches and will progress should Cornwall lose.

The fixture is a crucial one as a narrow defeat would still see Wiltshire win the group, however a heavy loss could see them miss out on qualification for the knockout stage altogether.
