Boxing: Trowbridge Academy’s First Open show of the season was a sell-out at Westbury Country Park on Saturday.
Highlights of the 18-bout programs included Trowbridge boxer Cory Smitherman’s fine points win over the experienced William Healy (Bernfield). Smitherman’s all-action display over the three rounds won the judges’ vote. Billy Bartlett, from Trowbridge, proved a crowd pleaser on his debut with a really gutsy performance only to lose narrowly on points to the much taller Geoff Dixon, from Slough.
The highlight of the senior bouts was Trowbridge’s Darren Milner against Karol Zeilinski from Frome.
Both welterweights gave their all in a thrilling all-action encounter, before the local fighter earned the points decision.
In the junior category, Trowbridge’s Larry Ward earned a points decision over tough Jack Banks, while local favourite Brad Parsons picked up a decision victory over Capitol ABC’s Gabriel Connor.
