Golf: Cumberwell Park touring pro Steve Surry continued his excellent start to the season by securing 4th place at the EuroPro event at Faithlegg in Ireland last week.

This follows Surry’s victory at the opening event, when he picked up the Collingtree Masters title and £10,000 prize money.

Surry was invited to play in the pre-tournament Pro-Am on the Tuesday, and got his week off to a good start with a 2 under par round of 70, which saw him finish in 3rd place.

A slightly disappointing round of 73 on the opening day of the tournament proper left him in 54th place overnight, but the following day he shot a 65, the lowest round of the tournament, and was nicely placed in 3rd place going into the final day.

A good start to the final round gave hope that he would achieve back-to-back victories. No doubt this had the Sky Bet team sweating, as they had offered odds of 6/1 for Surry to win 3 events this year!

Unfortunately, an 8 on a par 4 saw him drop several places down the leaderboard. Surry showed his mettle, and kept his cool, to complete his round with a mixture of pars and 3 birdies, finishing at 6 under for the tournament, 3 shots behind eventual winner Jack Doherty.

Surry was again followed by the Sky cameras, and will be sure to feature in the TV coverage on 27th May. His excellent form has been recognised with an invitation to play in the Challenge Tour event which is being held in Ireland next month.

The Challenge Tour is the tier below the European Tour, so sees Surry one step closer to achieving his ambition to join the main tour.

Surry returns to play on the Jamega Tour at The Vale, Worcestershire this week, as he is keen to retain the Jamega Order of Merit which he won last year.
